Hampshire Regiment Awards:M C and Bar Grave Ref: North Central Reserved Border A. 47. Additional Information: Son of Walter J. Wood, J.P., and Mrs. A. Wood, of "Ernecroft," Abbey Rd., Grimsby. On 11 November 1917, he took off in one of two Sopwith Camels tasked to practice dogfighting; Wood was still suffering from influenza contracted in France. His Camel dived into the ground for no apparent reason, killing him. It is surmised he fainted at the controls.
